Who is Brecht?

Bertolt Brecht was a German poet, playwright, and theatre director of the 20th century. Most basic acting training is in realism, a style that dominates film, television, and live theatre performance. Acting I and II in the Vanderbilt University Department of Theatre focus exclusively on realism. Brecht’s dramas, however, employ the techniques of his theory. Through direct addresses to the audience, musical interludes, and other devices, Brecht crafts plays that cannot be presented as wholly realistic. It is only in this presentation, however, that Brecht’s plays can truly have the intent he theorized.

A2 music video - Covet

This A2 music video seemed limited in shots an whilst watching it in class the feedback seemed to show that there was a lack of interesting shots. There are few locations used which may drop its marks. However, there is a good use of lip syncing throughout the song and the visuals do relate to the music as a sad atmosphere. Animatics are used very well to portray the underlayer of the lyrics. There is a constant return to the image of the lake as a symbol of the heartbreak in the song which can be used to gain marks.

A2 music video -  The naked and famous

This music video shows an abundance of locations and shots which we will incorporate into our work. The lip syncing is on point as well as the themes of the videos. The visuals don't necessarily go with the lyrics of the song which disallows Andrew Goodwins theory which may lose some marks but they do keep an overall theme to the song. The cuts are generally quick which makes the visuals more interesting to the audience.
